On the previous page "Senior Options" it was requested if any reader knew of anything beneficial that might added. My friend and past associate Joan Fairchild lent me her 200 page notebook from the North Star Council on Aging entitled "Wellness Program Resource Guide". Most everything below has been cherry picked from that book. As of 4/21/18, all links are active.
Access Alaska is a private, non-profit, consumer-controlled organization that provides independent living services to people who experience a disability. As an Independent Living Center, our mission is to encourage and promote the total integration of people who experience a disability and Alaskan elders to live independently in the community of their choice. Through our assistance and support individuals with disabilities can identify and obtain needed services in an effort to maintain their independence as opposed to living in an institution.
Among other services Access Alaska provides five core services: information and referral, independent living skills training, peer counseling, individual and systems advocacy and deinstitutionalization or nursing home transition.

FRA Senior Services offers home and community-based services to adults with Alzheimer’s disease or age-related dementia, and seniors experiencing frail or disabling conditions. Our comprehensive range of services are designed for those who can no longer manage independently.
At the same time, we provide supports to caregivers that include time-off from caregiving duties while knowing that their loved one or friend is receiving needed care services.
Our goal is to maximize independence and allow seniors and older adults to remain in the comfort of their home for as long as possible while lessening the stress of caregiving.

Adult Protective Services helps to prevent or stop harm from occurring to vulnerable adults. Alaska law requires that protective services not interfere with the elderly or disabled adults who are capable of caring for themselves.
Legislative Purpose:
Alaska has he fastest growing senior population in the nation, and Adult Protective Services is getting an increasing number of Reports of Harm and financial exploitation cases.
Financial Fraud is one of the top complaints. Cases have increased in frequency and complexity, and legal tools hadn’t kept pace with new technology that can quickly drain a bank account. Stolen money is very difficult to track and recover and prevention is critical in stopping a perpetrator.
Areas of concern:
Abandonment
Abuse
Exploitation
Neglect
Self-Neglect
Undue Influence

ALSC’s mission is to provide high quality civil legal services to low income and disadvantaged people and communities to protect their safety, their health and promote family stability. We are dedicated to bridging the statewide gap between those who need civil legal help and those who are able to get it. We have an unwavering and longstanding commitment to assuring that Alaska’s rural communities have access to the justice system. Through advocacy, education, collaboration and litigation we empower individuals, protect fundamental rights, strengthen communities, create opportunities and achieve justice.
The Alaska Legal Services Corporation Elder Law Project is a legal aid program for Alaska residents who are at least 60 years of age. Attorneys help hundreds of seniors and their caregivers in Alaskan communities each year.
